Zoom has become one of the most popular platforms during this time of the pandemic. It has become a reliable channel for video calls, not only for students but the office colleagues as well. There were certain questions raised regarding the security of the Zoom application. But there are many ways to protect your privacy.
When you sign in to your Zoom account, it looks dull. But it’s not just a video conferencing application; it’s a lot more than that. Here are the tips and tricks used to explore more of Zoom and make your experience a little fun.
Background Change
Now you can easily go anywhere just in a click. Not literally though! Zoom creates different backgrounds for you to make your video calls a little more fun. For changing the background:
- Go to Settings
- Tap on the virtual background and select any image you want as your background.
- Not all systems or phones support this kind of setting. So, you need to make sure of it working.
Turn Audio and Video off by Default
Whenever you join in a new meeting, Zoom asks you if you want to keep your audio and video on or off. You can change these settings to default by:
- Go to settings
- In the audio tab, click ‘Mute microphone when joining a meeting.’
- Same goes for the Video settings as well. For turning the video settings off by default:
- Rach settings
- In the video tab, click ‘Turn off my video when joining a meeting.’
- Use keyboard Spacebar to Mute and Unmute
You don’t have to struggle to find the mute/unmute button on your screen. Keyboard shortcut to mute and unmute your audio is to press the spacebar.
Use of Emoji
In case you cannot unmute your meeting, you can still interact with the host by sending emoji reactions on the screen- for example, a clapping emoji.
For doing so, go to the ‘Reactions’ tab on the bottom of the screen and select whatever emoji you want to send. Emoji automatically disappears after 5 seconds on screen.
Easy Keyboard Shortcuts
Keyboard Shortcuts have made working with the application too easy. All you need to do is learn keyboard shortcuts to perform commands on the Zoom app. It may be turning to full screen or orders to start or stop; it is a handy way to access.
Gallery View
If you’re a Zoom user, you probably know that the person who is speaking appears on the screen. Enabling a gallery view brings together all the participants on one single screen instead of the only one talking. To enable these settings: Click on the ‘Gallery View’ tab at the top right of the window. If you have 49 attendees or less than that, all the screen will appear on one single window. But if you have more than 49 attendees, it will appear in folds only.
Cloaking the Non-video Participants
You can hide the screens for those who are video conferencing without turning on the video. You can do this with the following settings:
- Go to Settings.
- In the video tab, click on ‘Meetings.’
- Select ‘Hide Non-video Participants.’
- This will help you avoid distractions.
Screen Sharing
Zoom allows you to share the screen with other attendees at the video conference. This helps you to coordinate and keep track of the meeting. You can share the screen by selecting the ‘Share Screen’ icon on the lower middle of the window right below the meeting screen. You get to opt for sharing your entire screen or just a section.
Red ‘Stop Share’ on the top of the meeting screen gets you back to the standard video conferencing disabling your share screen view.
Beauty Filter
Just like any other platform, Zoom too provides you an option for ‘Beauty Filter’ which gives a touch up to your appearance and make it soft, in case you feel like you don’t look your best.
To turn on the beauty filter mode, next to the ‘start video’ option, click the ‘up arrow’. Then go to the video settings, put a mark in front of the ‘Touch up my appearance’ button. Beauty filter will turn on.
Record your Meeting
You can record your Zoom Meeting in case you need to keep track of certain things. But this is only possible in a computer for both paid and unpaid accounts. If you have an unpaid account, this feature doesn’t work on your mobile phone. To enable this: Go to settings option and tap the ‘Recording’ button.
Zoom Recording to the Cloud
Recoding a meeting to the cloud is only possible if you have a paid account with Zoom. Selecting the ‘Record’ button on the bottom of the screen gives you two options, either to record your meeting to the cloud or local. This can be accessed on both PC and mobiles.
Host a Meeting for more than 40 Minutes
Zoom’s basic service lets you video call up to 40 minutes only. To host a video conferencing more than that, you need to switch to the paid account of Zoom app.
Video Conferencing for more than 100 People
The Zoom lets you host a video conferencing for more than 100 people when you’ve subscribed to one of its plans. Subscription to the professional account enables you to host a meeting for up to 1000 attendees.
