How to Set Up Google Assistant Blocks Explained

Now you can add more and more commands to your home screen. This is possible when you set up Google Assistant Action Blocks.

The Action Blocks app of Google Assistant is going live, which is going to give more options to the users of Android voice commands. The users of Android voice command can use this app for assigning more tasks. Also, the app is available for free download, and the users can download it from Google Play Store. Action blocks make the assigning of tasks more convenient through voice commands. These have much more functionality as the users will input their command for the artificial intelligence of the device; it will be saved as an icon. Later, the users can position this icon anywhere on the home screen they want on their device. It is entirely more convenient for the users as they don’t need to give any command common in nature such as “Hey Google, what is the date today?” every day. But, it is also inconvenient when it comes to unlocking the device and searching the icon to tap on it. The whole process will take much more time than it takes in speaking the specific sentence.

Google Assistant Action Blocks are streamlined as an app in terms of efficiency and complicated logistics. The users can download the app from the Google Play store to get it open and started. You will need to follow the prompts appearing on the screen to set up the whole process in less than a minute. It will take you a few minutes to create a sample Action Block by tapping on the button given on the screen to make it. When you select the option, it will redirect you to either enter the command you wish or speak the command using the words like Hey Google or OK Google to get the access of Google Assistant in the usual way. When you enter the command, you will get a button which will check your action. After then, you will be assigned an image for the action performed on the next screen. These images can be either assigned from the pool of options or the gallery.

Google Action Blocks: May be Not for Everyone

According to Google, they have taken inspiration to develop Action Blocks from a story which was about its software engineers. The software engineers were trying hard to develop a Google Assistant functionality that can be used by the customers with disabilities. A story has been shared on Google page how the software engineer, Lorenzo Caggioni, built a device by using Google Assistant to help his brother Giovanni. The device designed by Caggioni was called DIVA to assist his brother Giovanni who was not only deaf and blind but affected with Down syndrome also. Diva became the initial point to develop Action Blocks for making it easy to use tablets and Android phones for the people’s cognitive disability by using the Google Assistant.

Anyone who is not able to navigate into the contact list of Smartphones, find a contact or place a call can use it conveniently.

Also, It is useful for the people who are not able to speak the command to the app and so they can associate the image with command while clicking on it. The app is excellent to use for the children where they can identify the things through pictures by giving the commands. However, the app also has some issues, and the biggest one is it is not well suited to the multi-step process along with handling delays. For example, if you can’t set a timer for 40 seconds and after waiting 20 seconds the timer cannot be restarted. It does have a unique and useful option of routines allowing the users to trigger the command along with getting the response with tasks and for example, setting the thermostat to 60, turning off the light of visitors room or playing the specific theme song. However, the functionality is not available in Google Assistant, but it should arrive as soon as possible.
